DEMAT – the Diocese of Ely Multi Academy Trust – was founded as an umbrella Trust to enable Diocesan Church Schools to become academies, thus maintaining their historical links to the Church of England and protecting and maintaining their distinctiveness for future generations. More information can be found by visiting http://www.demat.org.uk.
Since inception it has grown from strength-to-strength, and welcomed a significant number of schools, including community schools. This is because the Trust succeeds by welcoming applications from individual schools as well as existing school clusters, thus preserving and strengthening the whole local educational community, for the befit of the whole locality, regardless of school type.
The Trust is open to applications from all schools within or proximal to, the Diocese of Ely (e.g. Cambridgeshire, West Norfolk, Southern Peterborough and West Suffolk). Schools wishing to discuss converting to academy status within DEMAT, should contact Sarah Conant, the Deputy Director i/c of newly acadamising schools. Criteria needs to be met for a school to be admitted to DEMAT, and this will be discussed on application.
